February 6, 2019 —CHELMSFORD HIGH SCHOOL
This year, many of Chelmsford’s band, chorus, and orchestra students have worked diligently with their ensemble and private lesson teachers to prepare for state-level music events, including the MMEA’s Northeast District Junior District Festival. The talent and drive of these students is consistently demonstrated through the sheer numbers of students who are accepted each year, and this year has produced another crop of successful auditions!
After auditions of approximately 1,000 students from more than 95 public and private schools held on February 2, students from grades seven through nine were selected to participate in the prestigious Massachusetts Music Educators Association Northeastern Junior District Festival. The program is offered by the MMEA as an enrichment opportunity providing a musical experience to dedicated young musicians. The students were selected to perform in the Junior District Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Girls Chorus, and Boys Chorus. They will rehearse with guest conductors and then perform in a concert to be held at Galvin Middle School in Wakefield, MA on March 30.
This year, 35 students from Chelmsford High School, McCarthy Middle School and Parker Middle School in Chelmsford have been selected to participate in the MMEA Northeast Junior District Festival!
13 CPS Middle School Singers Selected For the 2019 Massachusetts Music Educators Association
(MMEA) All-State Treble Chorus!
The Chelmsford Schools Fine and Performing Arts Department is proud to announce that 13 students from Chelmsford were selected to be part of this year’s Massachusetts Music Educator’s Association (MMEA) All State Treble Chorus! The All State Treble Chorus showcases the talent of some of the state’s youngest singers. This program is offered by the MMEA as an enrichment opportunity providing a musical experience to talented young people. Participating students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their artistry and to create new friendships. Auditions for the Chorus were open to students in grades 4-6 whose teachers are members of MMEA, and audition recordings were submitted online. All of the CPS student applicants prepared for auditions with Choral Teacher Jodi Richardson. The students who were accepted to the festival will rehearse with guest conductors and then perform in a concert at the annual MMEA Conference in Boston on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Marianna Parnas-Simpson, whose elementary student choir won a Grammy award in 2002, will be the conductor of this year’s All State Treble Chorus.
