Description: The Lion’s Den Preschool offers a warm, safe and secure learning environment for your child. An integral part of our program is the association with the Family and Consumer Science Department at Chelmsford High School. Through the Exploring Early Childhood class, we obtain the services of student aides. These highly motivated students gain hands-on experience in the preschool field while providing our staff with valuable assistance and significantly decreasing our teacher/student ratio. A bonus for your child is the natural, youthful exuberance teens provide.

Our rich curriculum fosters exploration and discovery with special emphasis on social development. We provide a large variety of learning experiences that appeal to all the senses – visual, auditory and physical – in individual, small group and large group activities so that children experience various kinds of social interaction.

Preschoolers love to explore and discover; we capitalize on this innate curiosity in many ways. We build skills in observation, predicting and comparing through simple science experimentation. The preschoolers learn to distinguish between shapes, color, textures and sizes through use of various art materials. We use instruments to explore music from different countries. Both boys and girls have opportunities to participate in a range of activities, from block building to musical, artistic, or dramatic play, in order to stimulate the development of spatial, artistic, musical and verbal abilities. Their learning is enriched by thematic activities and circle time discussion geared to their age level such as space, dinosaurs, farms, animals and many more.

The preschoolers engage in many activities that stimulate literacy and foster math readiness such as listening to stories, participating in Letter of the Week, using manipulatives, learning finger plays, singing songs and using programs on our computers. We meet the Standards of the Massachusetts Prekindergarten Program through play, art, music, games and fun. The fun continues in the great outdoors in our wonderful jungle gym area.
