Overview of the Program
Our experienced, educated, and creative staff not only actively support student assimilation of the WIDA language standards, Common Core curriculum, and cultural norms, but they also act as an invaluable resource to other faculty and administration on matters relevant to the education and acculturation of Limited English Proficient Students.
In response to the mission of The Chelmsford Public Schools and to fulfill the requirements of the Massachusetts State Law for Limited English Proficient Students, the Chelmsford ELE Program establishes relationships which act both collaboratively and supportively to address the needs of the Limited English Proficient students in grades K-12.

ELL Department Recommends EdgeThis is an exciting time for the Chelmsford ELL Department! Because of the adoption of both the WIDA standards for English language development and the Common Core standards, we have the opportunity to universally design a new standards-based curriculum for our students. After reviewing several programs, our department recommends the purchase of the Hampton-Brown Edge program for our high school ELLs.This core Reading/Language Arts program prepares ELL students for success on exit exams and moves them to graduation and a promising future. We hope to adopt this program for implementation during the 2014-2015 school year. To learn more about the Edge program, click here.
RETELL Course is a Great Success!All teachers currently servicing ELL students are mandated to participate in RETELL, a Department of Education initiative to improve and support the academic achievement of ELL students. RETELL brings a systemic approach that combines professional development for Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) teachers designed to enable them to make rigorous content accessible to their English learners. Our own Sandra Huguet met the rigorous standards to become a RETELL instructor, and as you can see, her class is working so hard.
