John Philip Sousa National High School Honors Band
This summer, many Chelmsford Public Schools student musicians are continuing to perform in local, state, and even international music events. Six of these students recently participated in the John Philip Sousa National High School Honors Band, a highly selective, nationally renowned ensemble. Chelmsford had the highest number of students from any school district selected to participate in this ensemble.
This year’s conductor of the John Philip Sousa National High School Honors Band was Col. Jason Fettig, Director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band of Washington, D.C. Members of the UMass Amherst Marching Band and its staff under the direction of Dr. Timothy Todd Anderson and Mr. Thom Hannum served as clinicians, staff, and coaches for the event.
CPS students who participated in the Honors Band include Natalie Tierney, Michaella Weinbeck, Amy Carey, Ryan Moore, Nathan Morrissey, and Alex Moore. Congratulations to these students, their families, and their music teachers!

Please click HERE to register and pay for transportation for the 2018-2019 school year. In order to calculate the most effective and efficient bus routes all riders must be registered through our registration and payment portal.
You will need to provide your child's First Name, Last Name and LASID (student ID) to register them in the portal. You can find your child's student ID in the X2 Family Portal. Just click FAMILY in the top tab (just below your name on the left side of the screen), and a list of every child associated with your family will be displayed. Please note if you have existing and incoming students you may need to adjust the filter (looks like a funnel), and choose "all records". Simply click on the name of the child, and you will see a field for student ID (on the left side of the page just under your child's name). The ID generally begins with 5500. You will need the entire number for the registration/payment process.
Please note, each child is registered separately in the MCC portal. Please be sure to register each child that will be using transportation.
If you are new to the district and do not yet have a X2 Family Portal account, you will recieve a communication from the Transportation Department regarding registration.

On November 18, over 1100 music students from public and private schools across the Northeastern part of Massachusetts auditioned for the 2018 Northeast Senior District Music Ensembles. Out of this group, approximately 450 students from grades nine through twelve were selected to participate in this prestigious Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) event, 17 of which were from Chelmsford High School. These students will perform at a concert in Wakefield, MA on Saturday, January 13.
In addition to having these 17 students accepted into Senior Districts, students who received a score in the top 50% of their area were eligible to audition for the MMEA All-State Ensembles. This year, 10 band, chorus, and orchestra students received All-State recommendations!
“We are so proud of the commitment of the students who auditioned and were accepted into this festival. Students work for years to be able to perform and succeed at this level, and participating in this event is a real honor for them, as well as for our district as a whole, ” commented Fine and Performing Arts Coordinator Christina Whittlesey.
