Two Chelmsford High School Seniors Awarded Scholarships

Scholarship Winners and Teachers

CHELMSFORD, MA – The Council of Chelmsford Schools (CoCS) is pleased to announce it has awarded two scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to two graduating Chelmsford High School Seniors.  Delaney Schiefen and Nicholas Havener have been chosen to receive the scholarships after submitting essays about a Chelmsford Public School staff member, who could be a teacher, guidance counselor, coach, etc., had the greatest influence in their lives.  The Council has also awarded $100 to each to those staff members.

Delaney Schiefen won for her essay featuring Amanda Roeder, Chelmsford High School Chorus Director, and Nicholas Havener won for his essay featuring Craig Vitale, a Chelmsford High School Social Studies Teacher who has also been selected as the Commencement speaker this year.

“In the midst of an extremely difficult period for teachers and students alike, I found Delaney’s essay to be incredibly affirming and uplifting,” said Amanda Roeder. “This is such a beautiful premise for a scholarship, and I will always treasure Delaney’s words. I couldn’t be happier that she plans to study music education herself - lucky are the children who will be in her classroom some day!”

“I would like to take a second and congratulate both Nick and Delaney on writing two incredible essays,” states Craig Vitale.  “To hear the kind words that Nick said about me is truly humbling.  Also, to be considered along with Amanda is very incredible as she does so much for so many students at CHS each and every year.  Nick is truly an incredible student and has been a pleasure knowing these four years.  He is a driven, intelligent, and one of the hardest working students I have taught.  I know that he will do incredible things in the years to come.  This entire thing has been truly amazing to be recognized by Nick and humbling to know that I meant as much to Nick as he meant to me as a student and a team manager.”

The CoCS is a 501 c3 organization composed of all the Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) in Chelmsford. Meetings are held four times per year. Hana Barber, Secretary of the CoCS explains, “Scholarships are the highlight of the year, and particularly this year as we look to celebrate all our CHS graduates.”

Emily Dilworth and Beth Cormier are Co-Presidents of the CoCS.  “We are very proud of all our seniors at Chelmsford High School,” said Co-President Emily Dilworth.  “We’d like to congratulate all of them on all their hard work, dedication, and future endeavors. We know this was not how they saw their last year of school ending and we are so proud of their resilience. Congratulations to Delaney and Nick, we wish you both the absolute best in your first year of college. You both represent Chelmsford very well and we couldn’t be happier for you."

This fall, Delaney plans to attend the University of Connecticut where she will major in Music Education. Nicholas plans to attend University of South Florida where he will be enrolled in the Natural Sciences Exploratory Track.  Congratulations!
